Our founders, Eric and Janet Sparrow, have deep-rooted ties to agricultural America. It's their Midwest upbringing that inspired the creation of a cleaner, healthier candle experience. From years of researching, experimenting, and just having fun, Milkhouse Candle Company was born.
Starting off as a Hobby for the couple in 2002. Their candle making began in standard canning jars bought at local auctions. They shared their creations with friends, family and co-workers and suddenly requests for more began to pour in. Years after the original candles were produced, Milkhouse continues to gain respect from consumers world-wide for producing the cleanest burning candle on the market.
You won’t find artificial color in these candles, and you won’t find any lead in the wicks. The Milkhouse blend of waxes is simple: pure beeswax and natural soy wax from soybeans grown right here, in the America’s upper Midwest. This blend of waxes ensures a safe and clean-burning alternative blend to paraffin candles.
Research shows paraffin candles emit toluene and benzene, which are the same chemicals released by diesel fuel when it burns. Most candle manufacturers still use paraffin wax or paraffin wax "blends" because paraffin is cheap, easy to work with, and has no natural odor. However, we care about the air our customers breathe and are committed to producing 100% paraffin-free candles.
As an alternative to paraffin, we use a blend of food-grade soy wax and beeswax. Soy oil is produced from the hulls of soybeans. The oil is extracted from the hull and hydrogenated to enable it to become solid at room temperature. The soy wax is then combined with beeswax to give it a higher melting point.
We are committed to spreading the message that soy wax and beeswax are healthy alternatives to paraffin wax. We are continuously focused on producing the highest quality and cleanest burning candles on the market.
